Churchfield, Treherbert

When I returned back to my birth place after living in Cardiff for a few years I took on an allotment at Churchfield, next to a gardener called Bernard. I knew Bernard through his work with cleaning up the rivers in the area. It was half-a-plot or as Bernard called it “a window box”.

When I returned to the village after 25 years in London I was offered a plot again on this site. Not having a car at the time it was impossible to get rid of the mountain of rubbish on the allotment from previous owners and no help was forthcoming from the committee. The glass from my new shed also went walkabout. I left after a year.
